Celebrity Style: Thigh High Slit Dresses

Gwyneth Paltrow on the cover of Elle Magazine September 2011 Issue

The thigh high slit dress is a perfect example of the way trends come and go over time. Some of you may even remember certain celebrities sporting this trend to various red carpet events and A-List parties throughout the years.

Rita Hayworth in the 1946 film, Gilda

Ava Gardner  wearing a strapless, slit dress in the early 1950s

Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell in the 1953 musical, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Throw back to 1994, Elizabeth Hurley wore the famous"safety pin" dress

Nicole Kidman wearing Dior in 1997

Angelina Jolie at a film premier in August of 2003

Jennifer Aniston at 2010 Golden Globes

Left: Rihanna at the 2012 Grammy Awards, Right: Lea Michele at the 2012 Saga Awards

Far Left: Karlie Kloss in Anthony Vaccarello Spring 2012 Runway show

At GAVIN, we believe that the classic thigh high slit dress can be subtly sexy without looking over-the-top provocative; despite what some people say. And as this trend is clearly back in for Spring 2012, we now have a thigh high slit dress of our own at GAVIN.

This Graham & Spencer Maxi Pleat Dress  features a scoop neckline, cap sleeves and a slit to the right thigh. The fitted silhouette and black jersey fabrication are super flattering. Whether you’re just relaxing or planning a night out, this Graham & Spencer maxi dress has you covered.

Spring 2012 Trend Alert: Florals

Floral prints were all over the runway at the Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear shows- shown by the collections of Marni, Karen Walker, and Dries Von Noten below. According to Elle Magazine, the Flower Girl trend consists of "bold blossoms in vibrant hues and conspicuous patterns sprung up on the runways, worn head to toe and everywhere else in between."

A Trench Story

The trench coat started many years ago in the army, with a full double breasted ten button closure. Its purpose has obviously grown since Burberry took "trenching" to an art form. Every year we at GAVIN have one trench coat typically from GRYPHON but this year we took another route. Combining our usual leather jacket and trench options in one from Graham & Spencer.
