Trovata

Trovata in Italian literally means both "found" and appropriately enough "stroke of genius". The line was conceived by four beach bums in a university dorm in Southern California. If you're looking for cute, quasi-preppy clothes with a twist, you've found your look, TROVATA is clever, chic, relaxed and......ON SALE!!
All week we are offering 30% off on what we have left in this great line. If you've had your eye on the beautiful navy dress with the suede belt, the cozy stripped sweater, or the khaki's with the adorable detail, come on in and see us.
Ciao bella,
Lauren

babeth and me!

This is a photo of my dear friend, Babeth, and me at the shows in New York. We are at my favorite bistro, Pastis. We go way back to my days of modeling in Paris. Babeth and I were both at Elite and we have a lot of great stories to tell. My french was good enough after spending my junior year abroad at the Sorbonne, but after graduation from Tulane I returned to spend another 6 years there and french truly became my second language. Babeth and I traveled the world together doing shows and printwork and our friendship has lasted all of these years. For a real hoot, google Babeth Etienne, she was married to the biggest French rock star of all time, Johnny Hallyday. Boy do we have stories!!! I was her maid of honor and she was married in George Hamilton's house in Beverly Hills. From there she went on to have a child, make a movie, cut an album and finally create the thing I believe she is the most proud of....Sacatinta, her line of beautiful bags, constructed and embroidered in Mexico. These gorgeous bags are described in an earlier post in this blog and they have been flying out of this store.

Michigan Avenue magazine!

Thrilled to tell you that we got a great mention in an article in Michigan Avenue magazine on hip Evanston places to shop, eat and have fun!! Here's what they said:

G A V I N - Fashionista Lauren Cavallo Runzel, the owner of Gavin, offers an eclectic mix of clothing and handcrafted jewelry. The decor is as refined as the collections: Walls are adorned with beautiful wallpaper, glistening chandeliers hang from the ceiling, and a comfy couch awaits those under-enthusiastic husbands and boyfriends or shoppers in need of respite before tackeling Runzel's gorgeous inventory. 1939 Central Street, 847-328-7407.

I had the pleasure of dressing two incredible women, Natalia Zuckerman and Antje Duvekot. They were on their way to perform at Schuba's and gave me the opportunity to pick out clothes for them to wear for their show last Friday night. The whole experience brings to mind a French expression, "bien dans sa peau". It literally means, good in their skin. The French use it to express the idea of a person who is comfortable, confident, at ease. It is about the highest compliment a French person can give, much more important than being beautiful, bien dans sa peau is like the Spanish expression "simpatico", it comes from within. A person who likes themselves in a good way, not "pleased with themselves" which is so yucky, but just cool, in the groove, at peace with wherever they are at the moment. A deep calm confidence... seeing these two women perform Friday night was amazing. They were just so in their element, so "bien dans sa peau". I like to think that my clothes made them feel amazing, but I know in my heart that they are just amazing all by themselves. oxoxo Lauren
